Stephen P. Wernet, Ph.D.
Position(s): Professor, School of Social Service and Department of Public
Policy Studies
About Dr. Wernet: Steve Wernet holds his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of
Texas at Austin and his Master of Social Work from the University of
Connecticut.
Prior to his joining the faculty at Saint Louis University, Steve held faculty
appointments at Loyola University Chicago, and the University of Illinois at
Urbana/Champaign where he directed the doctoral program.
Steve has authored numerous articles and papers on nonprofit organizations,
social work administration and distributed learning. His most recent work
includes an edited book, Managed Care in Human Service (Lyceum Books, Inc.
1999) and a coauthored book, Cases in Macro Social Work Practice (Allyn and
Bacon, Inc. 2000), with David P. Fauri and F. Ellen Netting.
Interests and Experiences in Organizational Learning: Steve is a nationally
recognized social work educator and researcher in the field of nonprofit and
social work administration. His recent research program also focuses upon
web-enhanced and distributed learning in higher education. He teaches courses
on social work administration, organizational theory, nonprofit management,
social policy, community practice and research methods. He has extensive
consulting experience with nonprofit social service agencies around issues of
strategic planning, organization review and renewal, and alternative futures
